GUIDE TO THE LORD’S PRAYER - Matthew 6:9-13

Introduction: Teach Us To Pray

·     Matt 6:9  “Pray after this manner.”

·     Luke 11:2 “When you pray, say…”

Our Father Which Art in Heaven

·         “Father,” He is the creative source of all things.

·         “Our Father,” we belong to a family of like persons created in His image.

·         “Which Art,” God exist in the historic past, and is present today, in the here and now.

·         God is “in heaven,” a place positioned above all powers and principalities.

Hallowed Be Thy Name

·     Jehovah Jireh (Gen 22:13, 14) the Lord will provide (El Shaddai) the All Sufficient One

·     Jehovah Rapha (Ex.15:26) the Lord that heals (Elohim) Strong One

·     Jehovah Nissi (Ex. 17:15) the Lord our banner (Jehovah Sabaoth) Lord of Host

·     Jehovah Shalom (Judges 6:24) the Lord our peace (El Elyon) Most High God

·     Jehovah Ra-ah (Ps. 23:1) the Lord is my shepherd (Adonai) Lord

·     Jehovah Tsidkenu (Jer. 23:6) the Lord our righteousness (M’Kaddesh) Lord My Sanctifier

·     Jehovah Shammah (Ez. 48:35) the Lord is present (El Olam) The Everlasting God

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done On Earth As It Is In Heaven

·     God’s Kingdom come to me, to each member of my family, to my friends, to our church and to our community

·     Pray for God’s Will to be done in every area of your life. Call the names of persons for whom you’re praying, and for those who are in authority. (Pastor, Mayor, Governor, Congress, President 1 Timothy 2:1,2)

·     Praise God for His Kingdom, power and glory manifested in our world

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread (Deut 8:18,Gen 12:2-3, Deut. 28:1-13)

·     Pray specifically for God’s daily provision for your family (Phil 4:19)

·     Pray specifically for other’s who are on your prayer list for financial needs

·     Pray specifically for provision for your church, and other ministries

·     Praise God for His promised and demonstrated provision of daily bread

Forgive Us Our Trespasses As We Forgive Those Who Trespass Against Us

(Matt. 6:14-15; John 20:23)

·     Release anyone who has wronged you by vocalizing forgiveness in God’s presence

·     Search your heart to confess any sin in your life, and receive His restorative forgiveness (Psalm 51)

·     Praise God for forgiveness of sin and unhindered fellowship in Him (Psalm 32)

Lead Us Not Into Temptation; But Deliver Us From Evil

·     Pray that the Lord leads you through the day so you can avoid all the traps of temptation that Satan has laid for you (Matt 26:41; 1 Cor. 10:13)

·     Put on the Christian Soldier’s armor (Eph. 6:11-19), to be prepared for the continuous prayer watch (vs. 18-19)

Ø       Girdle (belt of truth)

Ø       Shield of faith

Ø       Breastplate of Righteousness

Ø       Helmet of Salvation (1 Cor. 2:16; Rom 12:2)

Ø       Sword of the Spirit (Heb 4:12)

Ø       Shoes of Preparation of the Gospel of Peace

·     Praise God for guiding your steps so as to avoid the snares of the evil one (Ps 37:23)

For Thine is the Kingdom, And The Power, And The Glory Forever,   Amen

·     Begin in praise, continue in praise, and conclude in praise

·     “So be it!”
